A modest outdoor patch, a few containers, and a slow, honest approach to growing things. Here is what I am learning along the way.
Practical projects
Projects that fit a balcony
Container herbs for the kitchen windowsill, a handful of seasonal cut flowers, and compost experiments I keep small and simple.
Container herbs
A row of pots on a sunny sill gives you fresh herbs for weeknight cooking. Start with basil, parsley, and chives in whatever containers you already own.
Zinnias and cosmos in a jam jar bring a little colour indoors. Cutting often keeps the plants producing through the season.
Compost experiments
Kitchen scraps go into a small bin and slowly become something dark and crumbly. Some batches work beautifully, and some teach me what to try next time.
Learning to wait
Patience grows slowly
Seeds take their own time to germinate, and some seasons simply do not go to plan. Tending plants has taught me patience, and to accept an imperfect outcome as part of the process.
The garden doesn’t have to be perfect to give you something to enjoy. A few green shoots on an ordinary day is plenty.
